1 John 2:15-17
On Not Loving the World
15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Expanded translation
15 Stop considering the things of the world precious with the result that you love it. If anyone as a habit of life is considering the world precious and therefore loving it, there does not exist the love possessed by the Father in him. 16 Because everything which is in the world, the passionate overdesire of the flesh, the passionate overdesire of the eyes, and the insolent and empty assurance which trusts the things that are a part of this earthly life, is not from the Father as a source but is from the world as a source. 17 And the world is being caused to pass away, and its passionate overdesires. But the one who keeps on doing the will of God abides forever.
