1 John 2:15-17 (NIV)

On Not Loving the World

15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Notes:

Do not love the world:

1 - Because of what it is.

2 - Because of who we are.

3 - Because of what it costs.

4 - Because of what it offers

5 - Because of how long it lasts.

Do love the world (world of people):

1 - Because people are made in the image of God. (James 3:9)

2 - Because we are charged with taking care of the world. (Dominion: God cares about matter)

3 - Because our work in this world can glorify God.
