Psalm 103:1-5
A Prayer for the Ephesians
[1] Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done.
[2] Sing to him, sing praise to him;
tell of all his wonderful acts.
[3] Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
[4] Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.
[5] Remember the wonders he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
[6] you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,
his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.
[7] He is the Lord our God;
his judgments are in all the earth.
Notes:
Scripture: Psalm 103.1-5
Subject: This is David’s testimony of God’s grace and blessing upon his life.
Survey: The word “bless” in the Old Testament is another way of saying
“to praise God.”
Substance: David’s Testimony of His Life as God’s servant.
God’s purpose is to move people away from their sinful inclinations and nature to a life of servitude and devotion to Christ. His plan redeems people from a life of selfish behavior to a life of worship and praise of the Redeemer. God’s work is to save mankind from their sin and its consequences and bring him or her to a life of joy and righteousness. The method that God designed to save you for eternal life rather than eternal death was to provide a substitute, a Savior. Salvation is about God bringing people to Himself. This salvation is initiated by the love of the Father, purchased by the sacrifice of the Son, and expedited by the work of the Holy Spirit.
1. The Quantity of This Life in Christ:
“How long will this life last? As long as God Himself live!”
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them and they follow Me; I give to them eternal life and they will never perish; and no on will snatch them out of My hand” (John 10.27-28).
2. The Quality of This Life in Christ:
“How good is this life? It is a life worth living.”
“I came that you might have life and that you might have it more abundantly” (John 10.10)
1. He pardons us from all our iniquities.
2. He heals all of our diseases.
3. He redeems our life from despair.
4. He crowns us with lovingkindness and compassion.
5. He satisfies our years with good things.
3. This is a Qualified Life:
“What is the condition to have this kind of life?”
1. It cannot be obtained by our personal effort of goodness.
2. A substitution is necessary.
3. How does Christ do this for us?
4. Each person must receive Christ by faith.
