Colossians 1:13-20
[13] He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, [14] in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
The Preeminence of Christ
[15] He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. [16] For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. [17] And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. [18] And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. [19] For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, [20] and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Notes:
Scripture: Colossians 1.15-19
Subject: Almost a dozen problems existed in the churches of Asia Minor. Paul addressed each in the book of Colossians. The greatest issue was some had challenged the supremacy of Christ.
Substance:
1. Christ is supreme because He is the express image of all that God is (1.15). He is God.
2. Christ is supreme because He is the first born (rightful owner) of all creation (1.15).
3. Christ is supreme because He is the actual Creator of all things (1.16).
4. Christ is supreme because He is the Creator of the angels and they are under His absolute authority (1.16).
5. Christ is supreme because He is the Sustainer of all things (1.17).
6. Christ is supreme because He is head of the Church, the Body of Christ (1.18).
7. Christ is supreme because He is the Preeminent One (1.18).
Summery: Everything that goes on in this universe is for the Father’s good pleasure, for His glory and the glory of His Son, Jesus Christ.
