Ways to Serve

  • Thrive Drive Kick Off :: October 26th

    Thrive Peninsula has been serving our community since the 1970s when it was known as Denbign United Christian Outreach (DUCO). In 2024 alone, they serve over 31,000 residents on the peninsula. We’re thankful to be able to partner with them and help stock their food pantry. Last year we put together 120 meal kits equally close to 870lbs of food! Can we surpass that this year?

    How you can help: In the foyer is a table with Meal Kit Cards. Each card contains a list of foods that make up a meal for a family. Shop for the items on the card and bring it to the church by November 20th. It doesn’t just have to be what’s on the cards - if you’d like to bring in shelf stable food to be donated, you’re welcome to bring those in as well.

  • Church Work Day :: November 21st

    We’re grateful for our facility and the grounds surrounding it. Help us be good stewards of what God has blessed us with by helping complete some much needed projects. There will be something for everyone - adults and kids. All hands on deck to keep our church home in the great condition that it is in!

  • Angel Tree :: November 2nd

    Angel Tree exists as a ministry of Prison Fellowship that aims to bring Christmas joy and hope to children whose parents are incarcerated. Each year we are able to sponsor 50 kids in our community by purchasing gifts for them on behalf of their parent(s).

    How you can help: On Sunday, November 2nd, we’ll have a table out with Angel Tree gift tags that’ll contain the names of each child and gift ideas to purchase for them. Shop for their gifts and return them to the church wrapped or gift bagged by Sunday, December 7th.

  • Care Net Baby Baskets : November 9th

    Care Net Peninsula is a team of Passionate Staff, Volunteers, and Donors Dedicated to Serving Moms and Saving Babies on the Peninsula. Part of their program is to equip mothers with the essentials they need to care for their children.

    How you can help: We’ll have a list available of items needed to put together care baskets that will be given to Care Net for mothers they care for at their facility.

  • Missionary, Military & Veteran Cards : November 16th & 23rd

    Help spread some cheer by writing an encouraging note or card that will be sent to our missionaries, as well as military personel and Veterans through the VA. On Sunday November 16th and 23rd we will have a table out with cards that you can use to write an encouraging note or Christmas cheer for one (or all three!) groups of people.

  • Thrive Food Kit Assembly :: November 21st

    How you can help: Join us on Friday, November 21st to sort through and put together meal kits to be delivered to Thrive Peninsula.

  • College Food & Finals Study Day :: December 10th

    On Wednesday, December 10th, we’ll be opening up the church to all college students as a place to come study and get a free meal. We’ll have food, study spaces, coffee, WiFi, and plenty of electricity to plug into for those electronics.

    How you can help: Come help setup, cook, bring a dish, pre-write encouraging notes, or simply hangout and love on our college students.

  • Newport News Fire Department :: December 12th

    A couple of years ago we got to serve some sweet treats as a THANK YOU to our local sherif’s office. We’re doing the same for our local Fire Department hall as a way to say we appreciate them and as a thank you for their hard work and sacrifice to our community.

    Ways you can help: TBD.

  • Christmas Service & Offering :: December 21st

    Make plans to join us for our Christmas service on December 21st. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers, as we come together to worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    We’ll be taking a special offering to help replenish our Benevolence Fund which aides in assisting those in need in our church family and surrounding community.

  • PORT - Ministry to the Homeless :: December 27-28th

    PORT or People Offering Resources Together is an emergency winter shelter with the intent to house the homeless on the coldest nights of the year, ensuring no one dies on the streets.

    Starting in 1991 - now in its 33rd year, PORT serves upwards of 120 people per night for a total of 20 weeks during the winter.

    We’ll be partnering with other churches during the night of Saturday, December 27th and the morning of Sunday, December 28th to serve those being housed those days.

    How you can help: We’ll have signups available several weeks in advance for both days we’re doing PORT. You can signup to serve one shift or both. Typically the evening shift helps with intake, ensuring the belongings of those staying the night are secure, providing them with a hot meal and warm bedding for the night. The morning shift returns belongings to those who stayed the night and gives out a meal bag to each person before they leave.
